Estimation of Carbon Sequestration Rates and Carbon Density of Forest Plantation Species in the Philippines

“Estimation of Carbon Sequestration Rates Carbon Density of Forest Plantation Species in the Philippines” is an ongoing research study of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) of the  DENR.  Project duration is from January 2011 up to December 2013.

Although a number of recent research studies have attempted to quantify carbon stocks and the rate of sequestration of some forest plantation species, this study will attempt to provide a more accurate and reliable estimation based on periodic measurements of permanent monitoring plots.  The study will provide necessary information for carbon trading in the Kyoto Protocol’s CDM (Clean Development Mechanism ) and carbon accounting in REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation).

The study is implemented in the following sites : Region 9 (Zamboanga DN), Region 10 (Bukidnon, La Esperanza, North Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro), Region 11 (Davao), Region 12 (Cotabato), and Region 13 (Surigao, Agusan)
