Green S.T.O.R.E. Philippines

As the Filipino communities celebrate National Climate Change Consciousness week on November 19-25, 2012, the USAID-Climate Change and Clean Energy Project (CEnergy), in collaboration with Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers, Inc. (PLLENRO), Climate Change Commission (CCC) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will sponsor a launching of “Green STORE (Strategies, Technologies and Opportunities to Reduce Emissions) Philippines” on November 19, 2012 at the New World Hotel, Makati City.

Dubbed Green STORE Philippines, the event will serve as a platform for sharing best practices on climate change mitigation.

Much like a store that offers a wide array of products and services, Green STORE Philippines will highlight exemplary feats and future plans of the national government. It will also present the lessons learned and recommended local policies on issues related to solid waste management, land use, and energy efficiency based on PLLENRO’s experience.

Specifically, the Green STORE Philippines aims to: 1) showcase pioneering initiatives of national government agencies and local government units on climate change mitigation; 2) present the results of community-level Greenhouse Gas inventory and proposed Greenhouse Gas Management Plans of selected LGUs; 3) serve as platform for sharing of strategies and technologies on managing and reducing GHG emissions at the local and national level; and 4) launch PLLENRO’s “Biggest GHG Loser” competition among LGUs and industries.

The Biggest GHG Loser is a competition organized by PLLENRO Inc., with the assistance of USAID CEnergy. The competition aims to encourage LGUs and business entities to account and manage GHG emissions. The competition will be open to LGUs, business and commercial establishments, and industries nationwide.

Likewise, part of the event will be awarding of the winners of the DENR-EMB “T-shirt design contest”. The theme is Images of Climate-Friendly Actions.
